What does it take to partner with the ‘greenest’ museum on the planet? To start, the California Academy of Sciences, a world-class museum and scientific institution nestled in the heart of iconic Golden Gate Park, wanted a partner well-aligned with their mission and commitment to sustainability and culinary excellence. Sodexo brings the experience of creating stellar guest experiences in cultural venues around the world, while also offering a well-rounded, visitor-focused culinary vision for their café and catering operations.
This week, we previewed for Academy members and Bay Area press a few new menu items from The Terrace, the new café venue constructed with the Academy’s Double LEED-Platinum status in mind. Our menu needed to reflect this commitment to sustainability, but also complement the feel of the new space. Featured menu items included an open-faced goat cheese sandwich and Northwest grain salad with buttermilk poached chicken breast and roasted beets, as well as assorted charcuterie and cheese boards, and of course, a cioppino fish stew. Our menus are driven by sustainable and seasonal ingredients and use the local bounty like Cypress Grove Chevre, Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese, Framani Artisan Meats & Charcuterie, Babe Farms and Faurot Ranch and house wine from the Save Me San Francisco Wine Company; it’s California after all.
But what really resonates with the Academy members and guests I have spoken with so far, is that Sodexo you can rest assured that these practices aren’t just being done here in the Bay Area – it’s happening all over North America (all around the globe for that matter) in accordance with our Better Tomorrow Plan. In line with the Academy’s sustainability standards, we look forward to making an impact in the Bay Area community with these programs. By upholding our own sustainable practices, we have been ranked as a global leader by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, earning an Above Industry Standard ranking for 10 consecutive years.
We are excited about this new partnership, but especially looking forward to welcoming visitors from the Bay Area and around the world. Stop in and see us! The Terrace Café is open to the public today, October 17, 2014.
