Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation has provided $629,000 in scholarships and grants since 2007. The application period for the Stephen J. Brady Stop Hunger Scholarships is October 5-December 5. This program recognizes and rewards students who have made a significant impact in the fight against hunger in the United States. The Giving Gardener
Hunger Squad member Ian McKenna Goncalo, aka The Giving Gardener, uses his superhero skills to fight hunger in his local community of Austin, TX. After learning about his sister’s friend who never had Santa visit for Christmas or a meal outside of school, Ian created The Giving Garden. The program grows school and community gardens so children in need can take home fresh fruits and vegetables to their families.
Hunger Squad member Hannah Steinberg, aka The Couponer, was motivated by TLC’s hit TV show Extreme Couponing to combat hunger in her Scarsdale, NY community. Hannah started Our Coupons Care to channel her passion for couponing to help those in need.
Mr. Big Heart
Hunger Squad member Jackson Silverman, aka Mr. Big Heart, combats child hunger in his community of Charleston, SC. He is the founder of I Heart Hungry Kids, an organization that harnesses “Kid Power” by hosting meals packing parties where kids help kids in need.
Hunger Squad member Brianna LaFran Moore, aka The General, received support as a young girl which later inspired her to help her community of Oak Park, MI. She is the founder and president of Operation Warm Up/Warm Heart, an organization that focuses on helping those in need of basic necessities.
The Snack Packer
Hunger Squad member Olivia Hodge, aka The Snack Packer, fights hunger in her local community of Blacksburg, VA. Here Olivia began working with Micah’s Backpack and her school to fight child hunger after recognizing children in her school were hungry.
