Sodexo Canada was recently named winner of the 2016 Tier 1 Champion of Supplier Diversity Award by the Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Suppliers Council (CAMSC).
From my perspective as an Aboriginal business owner who has worked closely with Sodexo since 2013, this recognition is richly deserved. Our company, Canadian Prairie Garden Purees (CPG), supplies Sodexo’s food service and healthcare divisions with premium quality fruit, vegetable and pulse purees.
This week, Sodexo participated in the “Upskilling America’s Workforce: Preparing for the Future of Work by Aligning Business and Education” conference, hosted by Manpower Group and Apollo Education Group at the National Press Club. The conference highlighted a ManpowerGroup’s Talent Shortage Survey, which found that 38 percent of employers globally report difficulties filling jobs.
As a top 20 global employer, with over 133,000 employees in the U.S., we recognize that a key part of the challenge is building a workforce with the necessary STEM skills. (more…)

Fit or fat? According to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, about 70 percent of adults in America are overweight or obese. And based on a recent report, our active duty U.S. military personnel are not immune to the nation’s obesity epidemic. New data disclosed by the Pentagon shows 7.8 percent of the total military force is now classified as overweight or obese, defined by a body mass index, or BMI, greater than 25. (more…)

I hate to tell you, but the quality of air inside of buildings, where people spend about 90 percent of their time, is even more important to your health. Ironically, according to the EPA, indoor air can be two to five times more polluted—and in some cases up to 100 times more polluted—than outdoor air. I represent Generation Z, a generation that spent our childhood taking care of virtual pets on Neopets and playing Pokémon Yellow on a Gameboy. We made Facebook accounts in middle school, as Facebook Memories likes to continuously remind us. We watched our parents cry during the terror attacks on the World Trade Center. We experienced “The Great Recession” firsthand. We saw millions of gallons of oil pour into the Gulf of Mexico. We witnessed our siblings terrified to go to school the day after the Columbine Shooting.
We’re a product of information, communication, and innovation. We’ve seen hardships not only on a national scale, but also on a global scale. The fusion of all of these experiences has led to a new generational mentality- one of strong work ethic, global understanding, and technological reliance. (more…)
